in a canoe without you

I took another man–better,
if I entertain your standards
of better, and your self depreciation

I let him under me and
with all my strength
I tried to row away from you,
smoothly, though the water was thick with blood

I went away from your shore
until suddenly, a storm of magnitude
erupted from the sky of my eyes
and soon I was capsized, left out at sea
with only the sting of salt, and the sun
